Success at Every Turn!
The “Odd Age Group” & Junior LSC Championship meets hosted by CBAC met with great success. The staff and board of directors wish to thank everyone who helped during a difficult time. We are grateful that many of you sacrificed your time to help at a distant location! It was delightful to see many of our CBAC swimmers take initiative to help with timing, concessions, result-running, etc. We truly appreciate your willingness to pitch in for the team!
CBAC Swimmer Travels to Olympic Training Center
This spring, Trey Ruefle & Coach Chuck traveled to Colorado Springs and participated in a 10-day altitude training camp. They bunked in dorm rooms with other top athletes. Trey trained at an intense level after the senior meet at Annapolis and felt the altitudes’ effects immediately. Highlights of the camp include: training alongside world-record holders and Olympic stars, using a pulley system that can be set at world record pace, being filmed underwater from five different angles and having his technique analyzed by Olympic training center staff. One Olympian, Andy Potts, reminisced about the training he had in Florida with Coach Chuck’s old team. “It certainly put a stamp on the training sets I’ve used and convinced Trey that I hadn’t just pulled those workouts out of my head one day,” said Coach Chuck. Trey remarked, “It was an awesome trip!” After training one day we explored the sites. I really liked the “Garden of the Gods. I can’t wait to go back.” Altitude Camp also included classroom time; studying videos to learn world-record breast stroke technique. While at camp, Trey and Coach Chuck stayed in the dorms at the athlete center.
Coach Chuck Returns to Colorado Springs
Coach Chuck couldn’t get enough of Colorado. He returned within a week to attend the Four “Ps” Build a Pool Conference. USA Swimming participated for the first time to show swim coaches techniques to improve their team planning and programs.
Team Records Keep Falling!
Congratulations to the following swimmers for breaking CBAC team records this year: Jamie & Mairyn Branaman, Brittany Culpepper, Allison Davis, and Eric Pinno. Don’t forget to check the CBAC website for updates.
CBAC has great Sectional Meet!
Eric
Pinno and Trey Ruefle returned for finals each night. Eric finished 2nd,
3rd & 4th in his events: 50FR, 100FR and 100FLY. He seemed to improve
with every swim, using a smooth & tactful race strategy. He had an outstanding
weekend! Not to be outdone, an under-the-weather Trey finished 2nd, 3rd
& 9th in the 100BR, 200BR and 50FR. He barely missed senior national
cuts in the 200BR. Although Trey said his body tightened up from exhaustion,
he knows he can make his national qualifying time. “I’m very
proud of them both,” said Coach Chuck. “I had to beat off the
college coaches almost all weekend!” Eric & Trey were given some
time on Sunday to speak with the anxious recruiters. It was the best-ever
Sectionals meet!
Congrats
to Eric Pinno – After several scholarship offers he chose an award
to Clemson University!
Congrats to Trey Ruefle, who will attend the University of Texas this fall!
Congrats to Eric Skrabacz who earned another scholarship to UMBC this Spring!
Congratulations CBAC swimmers who graduated from high school this year: Charlie Reimers, Eric Pinno, Lindsey Mummaugh, Tricia Salta, Lindsey Robinson, and Adam Errington.
Congrats to
CBACers who earned honor roll status at their respective schools. We’re
proud of you!
Seven CBAC Swimmers Participate in LSC Championships
“It was a great show of camaraderie & competition by Brittany Culpepper, Allison Davis, Lisa Errington, Lisa Gabrelcik, Keara Schmeiser, Melissa Boughton, and Justine Cavnor all weekend long,” remarked Coach Gus Federle. “Some swims were best times because they swam they way we coached them to swim.” Although he was not present, due to coaching at Sectionals, Coach Chuck was very pleased with the splits and results. He wishes sometimes he had a twin so he’d be present in two places at once!
High Schoolers Finish Big at SMAC Championships
This was the first time that some CBAC swimmers had a chance to shine in the high school sports scene. Many CBAC swimmers set high school and conference records, with the Leonardtown HS girls’ team winning both the regular season title and the SMAC meet title. The LHS boys’ team took the regular season. Both were undefeated! Great Mills & Chopticon team records were achieved by who else—CBAC swimmers. The Patuxent boys won the SMAC title. Several were chosen for the all conference team and we are extremely proud of them.
**Congrats to Allison Davis on being chosen Open Water Swimmer of the Year & former CBAC swimmer Will Richards for 13-14 Boys Swimmer of the year.
CBAC Hosts Maryland Open Water Championships
The Maryland Open Water Championships will be hosted by CBAC on June 19th at St. Mary’s College. This year’s event is open to all swimmers who wish to participate. We will bring back the 400-meter swim along with the popular 1k, 3k & 5k swims. Talk with Coach Chuck if you want to participate for the first time and/or you want to help. This is a great avenue for some swimmers who discover that they’re a bit better in open water than in a pool. We are looking forward to a great event.
Team Picnic & Awards Scheduled Sunday, June 19th
The annual CBAC team picnic is scheduled immediately following the finish of the Maryland Open Water Championships. The event will take place at the college waterfront around 11:00AM. Please look on the CBAC website for further information. We hope to see all of you there! Please see Coach Chuck for your swimmers’ awards. Awards will be distributed just after the MD Open Water event finishes.
