Coach's Corner: Head Coach, Chuck Jacobs
Can't Be Stopped- What do Cole Kimble, Will Richards, and Brittany Culpepper have in common? They just keep on breaking team records. Cole Kimble broke three team records during the GTAC Mini Meet at Western Maryland College. He set records in the 100 free, 50 back, and 50 fly; contributing to Cole's current holding of nine team records.
Christmas Meet - Brittany Culpepper, Davi Clark, Jennifer Ray, and Will Richards all competed in the SEVA 12 & Under Christmas meet held December 16-18 at Ft. Eustis, VA. Brittany set records in the 50 breast, 100 breast, 50 back and 100 & 200 IM races. Will set a new state record in the 200 breast and set two more team records in the 100 & 200 IMs.
Christmas Break Training Camp - Christmas training camp proved a fun time for all participants. Swimming, learning, video training, pizza and team unity were all part of the training camp experience at Somerset Hall Pool. Levels 3-6 participated, setting an average of 44 swimmers per day. The total number was 67 (along with 36 pizzas, countless beverages, and 2 videos). The top group went 100x100's on 1:30 and Level 4 went 70x100's on 1:50. Level 3 had 2 days of doubles and found a nickname for Coach Rob. Coach Chuck and Coach Rob worked hard and they saw many walls come tumbling down. Coach Chuck said, "I'm riding high from what we accomplished this year. The camp was very successful."
"B" Buster meet - CBAC sent 36 swimmers to the US Naval Academy to compete in the annual B-Buster Meet. This time participants competed in the "big" pool. Lejune Hall turned out to be the setting for a CBAC ATTACK! Leading the way with first place finishes were Emily Morris in the 9-10 girls 50 breast and Jessica Davis, 13-14 girls 100 free. Finishing 2nd in the 11-12 100 breast was Jackie Kitner. Jackie also finished 3rd in the 100 fly and 200 free. John Kitner finished 3rd in the 200 breast, 4th in the 200 fly and 100 fly. Andy Serb had top finishes in the 100 and 200 fly events. There were quite a few top 10 finishes. Check the CBAC website for all the results. Coach Chuck was very proud of all the participants.
MAC Winter Frolics - The CBAC BB& Over crew packed up
their gear and headed to Frederick, MD. Once there, the group raked in several
top 8 places. Participants included: Will Richards, Emily Dobson, Brittany
Culpepper, Megan Barber, Mary Gardiner, Natalia Fugate, Eric Skrabacz, Stephen
Kram, Beth Dobson, Lindsey Mummaugh, and Alex Kram. Eric proved that he
had the "juice" that weekend by racing to 7 first place finishes.
Natalia, Emily, Brittany, and Lindsey had several 1st place finishes, too.
Coach Chuck stated that Eric's 100 fly and 200 IM races were "big boy"
swims, and that Eric must be on his way to great things.
THANK YOU! - Coach Chuck & his family offer heartfelt thanks to swimmers and their families for the wonderful (and delicious) holiday cards and gifts! Good luck and best wishes to all CBAC families in 2002.
REMINDER - All swimmers must bring their bags and clothing into the pool area during practices! No items should be stored in the locker rooms. All female swimmers are also reminded that the "ice room" is OFF LIMITS. Please remember that we are guests of St. Mary's College. This is a repeat reminder. Anyone caught failing to adhere to rules and instructions of the team and the college will face serious consequences. Parents, we thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
CBAC Christmas Party:
The Christmas Party, which took place on December 21st, was
a great success! The food was excellent and a good time was had by all!
Who would have guessed that swimmers are such impressive hula-hoopers? The
competition was fierce as Coach Chuck lead the participants through steps
and turns, although the boys still have some work to do to catch up with
the girls! A big "Thanks!" to Tracey Summers, Suzie Boughton,
Donna
Cameron, Shameran Traven, and Marty Kitner for organizing all the fun!

2nd Home Meet - We will be hosting our next
home swim meet this month - January 25 through 27th. Please help us make
this fundraiser another success by volunteering for at least one session.
We will need timers, concessions workers, set-up and clean-up crews, runners,
as well as donations of food. The Board of Directors voted to do away with
the $6.00 per family concession donation, so your help is even more important
to make our Odd Age Group Meet another outstanding event. Volunteer
Sign-up sheets will be posted soon! Our Meet Director is Mardy Millen,
Head Timer is Marty Kitner, and Assistant Meet Directors are Jenny Culpepper
and Tracey Summers.
Note: If anyone has an extra printer they would like to donate to the
team for use at our home meets, please contact Mardy
Millen (301-737-0537)
asap. Thanks!
Concessions Meeting - There will be a short Meeting on Tuesday, January 15th at 6:00 p.m. at the Pool for all parents interested in helping to organize the Concessions for the upcoming meet. We will be deciding on the "menu" and selling prices, as well as organizing the buying. If you are interested in helping (and we do need your help!) please drop by, or if you can't attend, please see Liz Richards or Patti Lindblad for details.
Community Service - Remember .any swimmer aged 12 or over who will not be participating in the Home Meet will be expected to volunteer on deck or in concessions. The CBAC Board Members can sign your Community Service Folder to confirm your participation. Please help out your team while serving the community at the same time!
Board Meeting - The Next Board Meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 16th at the Pool. We will be finalizing plans for the Home Meet as well as discussing current topics. In the last meeting, Jeff Errington was confirmed as Vice President and website upgrades were approved. Also, the Board decided to drop the $6.00 Concessions donation and to maintain the same rate (per week) for the upcoming session.

Parent's News:
The technical rules of swimming are designed to provide equitable conditions of competition for all swimmers and to promote uniformity in the sport. Each stroke has specific rules. The Maryland Officials who officiate at Swim Meets throughout the State observe swimmers to ensure that they comply with these technical rules. Any infraction may result in the swimmer being disqualified ("DQ-ed") by an Official.
Disqualifications for each stroke include, but are not limited to the following:
Freestyle - walking on the bottom, pulling on the lane lines, not
touching the wall at a turn, not swimming the correct distance.
Backstroke - too many pulls into the wall once a swimmer has turned
passed the vertical onto the breast, turning onto the breast before touching
the wall with the hand at the finish of the race.
Breaststroke - An illegal kick, such as flutter, dolphin, or scissors,
alternating movements of the arms, taking two arm strokes or two leg kicks
while the head is under water, touching with only one hand at the turns
or finish.
Butterfly - alternating movements of arms or legs, pushing the arms
forward under instead of over the water surface (underwater recovery), a
breaststroke style of kick, touching with only one hand at the turns or
finish. (Source: "USA Swimming Parent Handbook")
For specifics on any technical rules, consult the "USA Swimming
Rules and Regulations book" or ask a CBAC Coach. Better yet, take
an Officiating Class and learn the rules yourself so that you can join the
CBAC "team of Officials"! It's a great was to learn about and
participate in your Child's sport! As always, we are in need of new officials.
The commitment is minimal as Maryland Swimming requires that you work only
6 sessions per year (the average swim meet is 4 sessions long, so you could
fulfill your requirements simply by working 1 ½ Home Meets!). Please
call Trevor Richards at 301-737-4407 or email him at richards@tqci.net
if you are interested. With enough interest, we may be able to organize
a local class in the near future.
