November 2002
Coach's Corner: Head Coach, Chuck Jacobs

The month of November always reminds me to be thankful. Thanks to our veterans for the freedom we often take for granted. Thanks to all of our volunteers who help our team succeed. Thanks to the coaches who make the commitment to help kids become better swimmers and individuals in and out of the pool. Thanks to all.
|
Reminder: NO practice on Thanksgiving Day. We hope you enjoy the holiday with family and friends. The only exception: Senior group has practice on Thanksgiving morning from 8:30am-10:00am. Regular practices will be held on Friday & Saturday of that week. |
Practices on the Base
All practices on base start at 6:00pm at the Officer's Club (Levels 1, 2
&3). Please remember when on base property you are a guest
who must obey the posted speed limits and go only to your assigned destination-the
Officer's Club pool.
Arrive on Time!
Please, please arrive on time to practices and meets. When CBAC participates
at any meet we are usually assigned a specific warm-up time and lane. When
your swimmer is late he/she doesn't get the proper warm-up necessary for
optimum performance. In addition, it's unfair to teammates who either have
to wait or swim over each other.
Thank you!
Four Meets in One Weekend?
Brace yourselves for a big weekend! December 6th-8th involves CBAC swimmers
in several locations. Here's the breakdown:
Mini Meet (8&Under) on 12/6 @ the Naval Academy
"B" Buster Meet on 12/7 & 12/8
12 & Under "A" Meet in Newport News, VA
13 & Over "A" Meet in Richmond, VA
Please check with your respective group coach to see which direction you might be going that weekend. More information will be posted on the CBAC website, too.
Check our website as often as possible for all the latest news and updates. If you can't find information you seek, please call Coach Chuck or email him. Don't forget to send us your email addresses so we can keep in touch!

CBAC Fashions
Apparel forms are available both online and with flyers in your team
mailboxes at Spring Cove Marina. Please return the completed forms as soon
as possible. The order deadline is Monday, November 18th. Remember, your
swimmer is to wear a team suit, t-shirt, and cap for all meets. This year
we are offering "new" team sweats. You won't want to miss out!
Warning! Danger Will Robinson! Stay off the deck!
Please remember that our insurance policy with USA Swimming does not allow
anyone on deck without proper certifications. Parents, I cannot stress it
enough. You are not permitted on deck at practices or at swim meets. If
your swimmer practices at Spring Cove you're welcome to relax in the upstairs
lounge. At the Officer's Club yellow benches located near the locker rooms
and marked "1 & 2" will be the only available areas for parents
to sit. Your cooperation is expected and appreciated.
Annapolis Meet Yields Best Times
This was the first CBAC meet of the year and Coach Chuck was very pleased,
"The long course training really showed in the 200s & 500s. Some
first-timers swam extremely well without bending under pressure." Many
CBAC swimmers achieved first cuts along with their "best times."

Got Questions?
Please try to speak with coaches before or after practices, not during.
When you occupy a coaches' attention during practice it takes away from
time spent with your athlete(s).

Movie day is coming soon. Please watch the CBAC website for more information!

3. Every athlete to reach his/her athletic potential. This means making a thorough commitment to training as well as contributing to a positive team atmosphere.
4. Maintain a safe, trusting, and supportive team atmosphere.
5. Be a teammate!
6. Meet the challenges of competition with strength, courage and intensity by demonstrating a positive attitude and focused effort.
7. Respect each other.
CBAC / TAC Fall Warm-up Meet:
The first "home" meet went off without a hitch last weekend at
Towson University! Towson's pool is so similar to the St. Mary's College
pool that we all felt right at home. Our Meet Directors Mardy Millen and
Jenny Culpepper had a great team of volunteers helping them to make this
another successful event for the team. A special thanks to Officials Randy
Morris, Trevor Richards, and Stephen Culpepper as well as Linda Davis and
the computer table workers, Head Timer Marty Kitner and his crew of dedicated
timers, and J.R. Brown and the many concessions workers. Nice job everyone!
The Tigerfish Aquatic Club members were very nice to work with and provided
many volunteers as well. They commented afterwards that they are looking
forward to the January meet!
The Fall Session:
The Spring Cove Marina pool enclosure is finally in place! Trevor Richards
and the Coaches have been working hard to provide a safe and comfortable
environment for all the swimmers. Thanks for your patience while we've been
working out all the kinks! (There have been many!) The airlock door was
installed today with the help of Marty Kitner - a connection to the locker
rooms will be built soon and then the swimmers will be completely out of
the weather from arrival to departure. A lost and found box will be placed
outside the locker rooms, so if your swimmer has left something behind,
remind them to check the box. The mailboxes are in place in the Marina lounge
and being used for escrow account updates, meet entries, etc. Please remember
to check your mailbox as well as the team Website for all the latest news
and updates.
For those swimming exclusively at the O-Club on Base, we will try to get
all handouts to Coach Robbie for distribution there.
Board Meeting:
The next Board Meeting will be held in the Lounge at Spring Cove Marina
on Sunday, November 16th at 4:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend. We will
be discussing fund-raising strategies as well as regular team business.
If you have any questions about team policies or procedures, or anything
else, please stop by and we will be glad to try to answer them.
Upcoming Events:
A "Popcorn Party"
will be scheduled soon for CBAC Swimmers! Your coach will let you know the
date! Don't miss it!
Sign-up sheets are posted
on the Website for all upcoming swim meets. Please remember that you must
sign your swimmer up on-line (indicate which days you can attend) if you
want to participate.
CBAC swimmers will be participating
in 3 "Christmas Meets" this year - all scheduled the weekend of
Dec. 7th and 8th. The B-Buster ("B" time standards and slower)
will be held at the Naval Academy in Annapolis; the SEVA 12 & Under
Invitational ("A" and above time standards) will be held in Hampton
Roads, VA; and the NOVA 13 and Over Invitational will take place in Richmond,
VA. Hopefully your swimmer can take part in one of these meets. They are
fun and challenging events and there is always plenty to do for the whole
family in those areas. See you there!
